Angst to success
It all starts in high school, when everything starts to get serious, when you start getting a bunch of homework and projects, when you have to start thinking about the future, and when you start discovering yourself. I think the age when you start high school is when you start developing angst. Although the coming-of-age is actually a pleasant experience for me, I must say that I can't really get through it without any kind of fear.Ever since I've started high school, I began to stress about school and other useless stuff that seemed to be important to me at the time. I think school is one of the main reasons why angst may be a defining feature of the coming-of-age process. It's pretty much what, I guess you can say, "defines" you, depending on what you want to be in the future. I think it may actually help you discover what you're capable of. Let's say you want to pursue a career in medicine. Well you'd have to work very hard in high school to be able to get into a good college and get into med school. There's a bunch of work and exams thrown at you and you have to study for this and do a project on that. Sometimes all the work is thrown at you at the same time and you have a hard time balancing the subjects to work on.
According to Junior Achievement USA, in 2013, 46% of teens that surveyed are interested in a career in medicine, dentistry, engineering or in mathematics. That is almost half of the number of teens that surveyed. This means that many teens are trying to work hard to achieve their dreams and of course, there is also competition. Of course this may be accurate in any other fields. This causes angst to the young ones because of the fear of not getting accepted in their desired school, and knowing that they're not good enough to achieve their dream job.
As teenagers head to a higher level each year, they must engage into a more difficult academical work. Due to the amount of time consummation of their toil, teenagers endeavor to spare time with extra school work, extra curricular activities, social lives, and health. This is a common problem for every teen, and let's not forget the pressure from peers and family in order to satisfy them. These inconveniences may not only lead to angst, but many psychological problems like depression, for example. But despite all, in my opinion, their future depends on how they react towards angst.
I think it's normal that teens develop angst because it is a process of the coming-of-age. In my opinion, it prepares you for the future somehow, because it tests your reactions on stressful situations.
So, to reach success, you must go through teen angst.
