Is Materialism Taking Over Our Youth? Do you believe materialism is taking over our youth? I think youth now a days want everything. Not only do they want everything! They wanted handed to them without working for it. Everyone is materialistic but some are worse than others. social media is exactly helping today's youth. For example, Instragram is as they say on their website " capture and share the world's moments". i guess it is for some people but its more a way to take pictures of things you own and you post them on this application. and its all about who gets the most likes and who has what. You could even say its a competition out there. I'm not really one to talk because i do it myself. It's like the more likes you get on picture. it boost up your self-esteem. Which is entirely ridiculous. There's also the fact that parents baby the kids. They give them everything without them working for it. So our youth gets lazy.

There was a study done by Jean M. Twenge and Tim Kasser, both psychologist, who compared students from the 1970's to recent students are more materialistic.In an article called Generational Changes in Materialism and Work Centrality 1976-2007. Students from the years 2005 thought it was important to have money, when 48% thought the same in the years of 1970's. the only that should matter is having a roof over your head, food and love. Those should be things that make anyone happy. Not the new car of the year or the new clothes. We should all stop for a second and realize that we are very lucky people to live the way we do. We should appreciate it a lot more because if you look around the world.Life isn't always fair to others. by Shireen Khalil
