1)      Simple plan- this song saved my life: The lyrics in this song talk  about finally finding one’s true self.  The lyrics invoke the theme of reformation and reawakening of one’s true spirit.  The main chorus is that this “song saved my life” (Simple plan). This and the high pitch voice of the singer’s provide an atmosphere of a new start or a form of redemption; a second chance to live life before having had the possibility for it to be over.  This song connects to the protagonist in Lullabies for little criminals  named Baby in which she finally escapes the harsh conditions of living with Jules when offered a new stable life with her Aunt at the end of the novel.

2)      Crossfade – so far away: The tone of this song starts out to be very low in pitch when starting with lyrics that sate that the singer in no longer the person he once was.  The music continues with a high tone which in my opinion reveals explosion of energy which is rebellious in nature when the lyrics turn to say that no one will “ever see me now” (Crossfade). I think that this song connects with the theme of rebelling against society value in Just kids.  The reason I believe this to be the case is because the Protagonist Patty smith rejects becoming a teacher and then continues to undergo major changes in her character development.  In my mind, these changes would have made it harder for people to see her as she once was.

3)      Mr. Probz – Waves: The lyrics of this song describe how the artist feels how he is being drowned by sorrow and emptiness with the time that passes from him being away from the person he loves.  I think this connects with Baby’s journey to overcome the emptiness she felt while she was away from Jules in Lullabies for little criminals.

4)      30 seconds to mars- from yesterday:  The lyrics of this song talk about a stranger who nobody knows who would one day change a specific event. This song connects with the story Where have you gone? Where have you been?  The tone of this text from the beginning is mysterious because of not knowing who Arnold is and how he will change the protagonist character’s life.

5)      Three days grace- Break : the tone of  this song is very aggressive and rebellious in nature. The lyrics talk about “Breaking” (Three days Grace) from everyone and everything and doing what it is you want to do. The central theme of A and P is about being tired of society and constraints which society imp laces  on individuals such as Sammy who constantly has to bear with the same negative notslagie of working at the mall.

6)      Linking park- Crawling: The core message from the lyrics are about being alone and suffering without anyone to really support or help you cope with Depression. In the handout, “Loneliness:  a silent plague that is hurting young peoplethe most” the central theme is that many young people experience severe loneliness and do not have anyone to turn to. These messages correspond ver well together because of their focus on being lonely and the feeling of loss.

7)       Simple plan– Just a kid : The lyrics of this song describe how being a kid can be rough and troublesome.  The article called “GenerationWuss”  this song connects to this article because it has a central message of how the millennial generation is very sensitive and complains about problems of life that the  older generations would not have bothered complaining about.

8)      Trading yesterday- shattered: The tone of this song is very low, it combines itself with lyrics that describe that describe the giving up of one’s past life. This connects to Baby in Lullabies for little criminals in the way she gave up on being a prostitute and hanging out with Alphonse; moving it to a new chapter in her life.

9)      Joan Jett-  Bad reputation: The tone of this song is very high in pitch with an aggressive nature.   The lyrics are very obvious in stating that the new generation does not care about the older way of thinking in previous generations. This connects to the article “Stand for something” where the core message is how older generation judge the millennials very harshly.  The lyrics connect to this article because of its mission to state the new generation doesn’t care for the so called “Bad reputation which it has going for it.

10)   Move along – all American rejects : The lyrics talk about moving thought hard moments even if they seem very tough in nature.  In lullabies for little criminals a central theme present in the text is the possibility to overcome difficult challenges in life as seen with Baby’s ability to overcome her path with alphonse, her dad’s drug problem, and coming of age.
