Glass Half Full, or Glass Half Empty?

The youth of today “believe their glass is half full according to a new national survey commissioned by Big Brothers Big Sisters Canada (BBBSC) and MasterCard Canada”.  In other words, youth today are feeling optimistic themselves so why shouldn't you feel that way too?

Report Card
Youth today know that school is needed in order to get a decent job and “it is currently estimated that 35% of new jobs to be created in Canada by 2015 will require a university degree”. Statistics such as this do push youth to stay in school and make school a priority.  “Today, many more youth are undertaking a university education, causing the national bachelor's degree graduation rate to rise from 18% in 1976 to 33% in 2004”, and this is a great increase, which shows us just how motivated youth are to get a good degree. In today’s time, getting a diploma is something that most people want to achieve and know they have to achieve. It’s not easy getting a job and we all acknowledge that, but getting a job without a degree is even harder. School will also provide us with a higher financial security in the future and therefore we can become more independent.
Youth Doing Homework

Time management is very important and school provides this skill. It teaches students to get things done on time so that they can become more organized. Youth also develop social skills while being a student. They learn to interact with other people and this can provide them with great use for their future because interaction is something we all need.

Youth also have a lot more ways to achieve in school with technology being everywhere. It is much easier to find reputable information online than it was a long time ago. Technology today can provide us the same information a book from the library can, which is much more efficient and time saving. With information a click away, youth today have more opportunities to learn in a fast, effective way. Furthermore, “over the past twenty years, wireless technologies and the Internet have become ubiquitous, affordable, and available to almost everyone”. There are wide ranges of prices for smartphones and this creates easier access to information thus the youth of today can become educated a lot faster.

Youth today have a larger selection of ways to get educated and this will provide them with a brighter future. Staying in school is important not only because youth need it for a future job, but because they need it to learn. School is something we all need whether we want to believe it or not. I do believe their glasses are half full when it comes to their future. Their futures are bright with a world full of information to be found and skills to be learned. Their futures depend on school and knowledge, and this is what they strive for. They strive for a future and I feel very optimistic that they will have one.
