Slice of Life

Bad Reputation - Joan Jett
This is what I picture Patti Smith's vision of herself to be when she cut off her hair. Her rebelling against what the crowd said about her appearance at The Factory points to her wanting a badass reputation.

How to Disappear Completely - Radiohead
This song is for when Baby finds out that she will not be returning home with Jules as he needs to stay in hospital longer. The way the lyrics and notes on the guitar are long and drawn out is reflective of her stay at certain places like the juvenile detention centre and also later on when she is with Alphonse.

Laughing With - Regina Spektor
The overall feeling of conflict and sadness in this song reminds me of the last conversation that Patti Smith and Robert Mapplethorpe when he asked if art got the best of him.

Green Eyes - Wavves
The theme of loneliness and angst which is explored in "Loneliness: a silent plague that is hurting young people most" by Natalie Gil is reflected in this song. The general increase of tempo during the chorus shows a sense of agitation which is characteristic of angst. When the tempo returns to a more moderate pace it reminds me of loneliness.

Childish Gambino - 3005
This song is for Baby and the way she idolizes Jules. The lyrics in particular remind me of when she is listening to records with him in their apartment. The lyrics display Gambino's sense of loyalty much like Baby's to Jules during in particular the beginning  half of the novel.

Tick Tick Boom - The Hives
The tempo and loudness to this song portrays the tone of the blog post by Grimes "I don’t want to have to compromise my morals in order to make a living". The way she rants about all the thing she doesn't like about the industry and then at the very end says she is taking a break mimics the progression of the song.

Crown on the Ground - Sleigh Bells
The article "Colossal Youth" by Jamie from Rookie Magazine write about how youth are misrepresented and tries to balance that out with some examples of youth being awesome. This song is full of energy, has a fast tempo and doesn't use the cadence effect basically a personification of the individual in history she mentions.

Brutality - Black Box Recorder
This song is basically an ironical representation of how feel when reading the article by Zosia Bielski whom explores the theme of ageism.

Symphony no6 movement 4 - Tchaikovsky
This final movement of Tchaikovsky emotionally depressive masterpiece is a fitting auditory description of when Baby is locked out of her house and makes the decision to go back to Alphonse.

Outsider - Ramones
I see this song being preformed by Patti Smith. The energy of the piece is very much like the song Horses. In addition, the message of the song is quite similar to what the whole culture that Smith was writing about in Just Kids
