“Dance With the Devil” by Immortal Technique
The sinister beat and theme of the song as well as the final lyrics: “A dance with the devil might last you forever” paint a disturbing picture that is very similar to the one that is depicted in “Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been?” by Joyce Carol Oates, if you believe that Arnold Friend is Satan and the place where they are going is the afterlife, which is very possible.

“REMember” by Mac Miller
In this song, Mac is talking about his close friend Reuben who had died during the prior year. The sad beat and many lyrics like: “I kinda wish you knocked her up, so I could meet your son and talk you up.” Show a similarity to what Patti might have felt once she found out that Robert had passed away.

“I Hold On” by Dierks Bentley
The lyrics: “You see this here flattop guitar, Has had my back in a million bars […]So I hold on” show a very similar love that Dierks and Patti Smith have for their oldest guitar that has been through the good times and also the bad ones.

“Heaven Knows” by The Pretty Reckless
In the first verse of this verse, it is said that: “Gotta make that cash, wont be pretty, wont be sweet” showing a similarity to Baby’s situation to make money in LFLC. Also the chorus of: “Heaven knows we belong way down below” can be directly seen as music that accompanies Theo and Baby when they break into a house.

“Dear Mama” By Tupac
This song shows Tupac’s his appreciation for his mother who raised him on her own and how much she means to him. As Tupac states: “Ain’t a women alive that could take my mama’s place” it shows that not having a mother can be pretty tough and Baby has to live this life everyday, trying to find a replacement.

“Just A Sip” by Luke Bryan
This song demonstrates the courage you gain and the loss of anxiety that comes with the consumption of alcohol. Baby’s character experiences this while having a beer with Alphonse after a movie. This allows her to let loose and have her first kiss with him.

“Bullet With Butterfly Wings” By The Smashing Pumpkins
With the hook of: “Despite all my rage, I am still just a rat in a cage” this song holds true to the feelings Sammy begins to experience in “A & P” as he realizes that the society he is living in is not for him. However, even after trying to escape it, he realizes that it is not the best decision to do so.

“All We Have” By Machine Gun Kelly
This song is written as proof to live in the moment because he mentions forgiving his father who lied to him about his own schizophrenic cousin had died when he had not. This is a clear comparison to Baby’s feeling towards Jules for keeping the truth about Baby’s mother a secret for most of her life.

“I’m Coming Home” By Skylar Grey & P-Diddy
In this song, both artists express desire to return home, where it is safe and where all the problems and obstacles can be forgiven and concurred with the help of family and friends. A same situation can be expressed through Baby at the end of LFLC when she goes to live with Janine.

“I’ll Be There” By The Jackson Five
This song demonstrates the love someone has for one another, in their time of need or whenever they are in a tough situation. Patti and Robert display this trait when they made a promise that they would always be there for each other, through think and thin, when Robert was very sick.
