Money oh money, why must you be so funny?

Does anyone really know why money is so damn important to us? I mean really honestly important? Not the social responsibility or the social class it gives us, or even the fact that it is a necessity in life in order to survive. Money today, as well as in the 1960s has always been important, however back then, less so with youth culture. Back in the 60s, youths wanted to be in school studying, the war with Vietnam agitated them. This aided the counter-culture movement to take effect. Today on the other hand, we are obsessed with money. A large percentage of youths today will have at least one credit card. Most likely will owe money and be in debt. In this day and age, we are more focused on getting money in order to pay off what we owe, than do anything else in life. We are determined to get out of the debt we caused ourselves to get into as children, and suffer the consequences as adults. This generation has been named “the scapegoat generation, E-generation, violent generation” and so on. People are starting to question whether or not the next generation is strong enough to survive.

We, the generation of tomorrow do not truly know what it is to be in control of the world. We do not know what it will be like when we run the world. We cannot see any issues with the world. We only see money, money, money, money, money and yep, more money. I can’t say I am surprised though, all people do these days is sit around like fools and hope the world does not end while they are still living.  The youth of this generation however are much like those of the 1960s. No one believed that hippies would someday rule the earth. They never expected a group of people as careless as they were, to run things and keep the order and peace (to a certain degree of course).

The world as we know it will someday be run by the E-generation. We will flourish on the planet we call home. We will use money to build our way up the social ladder and we will topple the system eventually. All these things are certain, however for now, we can simply say that both the youth values of those in the 1960s and today were on the same page. They had different ideas on what was right, important and what was worth living for, however in the end, everything will be the same.

The next generation will rule the world and will use money to do it all. Money is the foreground of our society as a whole. We still try to justify its existence in western society through rebellion and other acts against society. The world needs to change as the idea of money is slowly ripping us all apart. However it will be a long time before something like that ever happens. So in keeping with the honest truth, money in youth culture has indeed changed in small ways, however once you step back and look at the whole image, it is like looking in a mirror. The youth in the 60s did exactly what we do today. We as a society have not yet changed. Probably will not either until something bad happens to us. However for now, Money is simply the only way of life.
