Defining youth, is it really so
simple that you can settle it with one definition? These days’ youth can mean
anything from being young, to being a teenager going through their process of
life. The youth of today seem to have that hopeful light about them. It’s truly
a sight to see, the youth today making big strides in a global sense. This is
definitely a cause for optimism; the youth is taking ahold of their generation
and running forward into a new age.
Emma Watson, UN Goodwill Ambassador |
The best example in my opinion
would be Emma Watson, being named a U.N Goodwill Ambassador. She is one of the
really sensational youth of today making an impact tomorrow. At the age of 24
she is almost singlehandedly bringing the knowledge of feminism to the world,
the most memorable one to bring up would definitely be her speech at the U.N
when she started to promote the HeForShe campaign. This campaign is to clarify the meaning of
feminism, which has been constantly portrayed as man hate (Emma Watson, UN,September 2014). This campaign is to promote gender equality not only among
woman but also among men as well involving the population.
Dylan Mahalingam |
There are a few less high-profile
youths making a difference as well. Names to look for Dylan Mahalingam, founder
of youth empowerment organization, Alexandra “Alex” Scott, founder of the
Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, Ryan Hreljac, the Ryan’s Well Foundation.
These names are just a few that are doing something. They started helping
others and making a difference at a very young age.
Hope this was an eye-opener to what our youth is
actually doing. Showing you that faith should be restored in our youth and the
youth of tomorrow.
