I cheated myself
Like I knew I would
I told you, I was trouble
You know that I'm no good
Although this song is about an unfaithful girlfriend
cheating on her boyfriend, from a different perspective, I think the lyrics might
relate to Jules’ and his drug addiction problems in Lullabies for little
criminals. He often promised himself and
Baby things he couldn't really keep. Deep inside he always knew his dependence
to drugs and bad habits in general was stronger than him. He cheated and let
himself down by making promises knowing already the predetermined outcome.
Wish you were here - Pink Floyd
How I wish, how I wish you were here.
We're just two lost souls
Swimming in a fish bowl,
Year after year,
Running over the same old ground.
What have we found
The same old fears.
Wish you were here.
I can perfectly picture Baby singing this song to her mother
(the one she never had) telling her how much she wished she was present in her
and Jules’ life, describing how hard and hopeless life can be when having an irresponsible
and unreliable father and how both of them (Baby and Jules) are committing the
same old mistakes over and over again, leading them to have a pointless and life.
Blue Jeans- Lana del Rey
Big dreams, gangsta
Said you had to leave to start your life over
I was like, "No please, stay here
We don't need no money, we could make it all work"
But he headed out on Sunday, said he'd come home Monday
I stayed up waiting', anticipating', and pacing'
But he was chasing' paper
This song made me think of Patti’s and Robert’s relationship when they
went through difficult economic times. As Patti related in just kids, Robert started working as a male prostitute in order to
bring earn some money. Patti had a hard time accepting Robert’s decisions and
actions since she knew there were other possible ways to solve their economic problems. I think these lyrics clearly show the fear and anxiety Patti felt every time Robert left the apartment to go "work".
Stop Crying you heart out - Oasis
'Cause all of the stars have faded away
Just try not to worry, you'll see them some day
Take what you need and be on your way
And stop crying your heart out
I think this song, in some way, describes Patti's personality and character. She was actually really
good at hiding the way she felt from other people. Patti’s life was not easy at
all, that might be the reason why displaying her emotions and feelings was quite
difficult for her. I see Patty singing this song to herself when facing a new hard and challenging
situation since for her, giving up wasn't really an option.
Strange Days - The Doors
Strange days have found us
Strange days have tracked us down
They're going to destroy our casual joys
We shall go on playing or find a new town, yeah
The lyrics of this song might relate to those days in which Patti’s and Robert's relationship was full of incertitude and concern. They often found themselves questioning if staying and living together as a couple was the best decision. I think the "strange" idea Jim Morrison is talking about in this song refers to all these negative feelings such as sadness, hopelessness and emptiness that affect the two lovers' lives in many different and significant ways.
One last time - The kooks
Can I hold you one last time
To fight the feeling that is growing in my mind
I know I did us both all so wrong
I know I'm not always all that strong
The meaning of this song is pretty obvious: couples breaking up and having to face the sadness and melancholy that comes with it. On the other side, I think this song its a good description of the last time Robert and Patty had
a conversation before he died. Before passing away, Robert made sure to let Patti know how much he loved her and how sorry he felt for putting her through difficult situations. They also remembered all they things they did together and how all those experiences helped them grow in a emotionally and artistic way.
When you were young - the killers
You sit there in your heartache
Waiting on some beautiful boy to
To save your from your old ways
You play forgiveness
Watch it now, here he comes
He doesn't look a thing like Jesus
But he talks like a gentlemen
Like you imagined when you were young
Before getting to know who he really was, Baby idolized Alphonse. In some way, she felt flattered by the fact that the man, every girl was in love with, was actually interested and attracted to her. What she didn't really know was that they guy she thought was saving her, was actually a wolf in sheep's clothing, bringing her down and ruining her life in any possible way.
Dont stop me now - queen
Tonight I'm gonna have myself a real good time
I feel alive and the world I'll turn it inside out - yeah
And floating around in ecstasy
So don't stop me now don't stop me
'Cause I'm having a good time having a good time
I think this song perfectly goes with Robert and the different experiences he had with drugs. Every time he got high Robert felt unstoppable and superior. Robert often used drugs as a way of escaping his confusing and painful reality. Drugs also helped him find the motivation and inspiration he need to create art.
Troublemaker - Olly Murs
It’s like you’re always there in the corners of my mindI see a silhouette every time I close my eyes
There must be poison in those finger tips of yours
'Cause I keep comin’ back again for more
Whoa, my mind keeps saying "Run as fast as you can"
There must be poison in those finger tips of yours
'Cause I keep comin’ back again for more
Whoa, my mind keeps saying "Run as fast as you can"
Baby was a very lonely kid. When she met Alphonse, she found in him some kind of refuge. At first Baby believed Alphonse was a good person that was protecting her but he was actually dragging her to the dark world of drugs and prostitution. Although Baby discovered how of a bad guy he really was , she keep coming back to him and asking for his help. Loneliness was also a reason why baby kept looking
for Alphonse's company and "love".
Bad Girls - Donna Summer
Bad girls
Talking about the sad girls
Sad girls
Talking About bad girls, yeah
See them out on the street at night, walkin'
Picking up on all kinds of strangers
If the price is right
You can't score if you're pocket's tight
But you want a good time
This song portrays the sad reality of many women out there selling their bodies in exchange of money. In Lullabies for little criminals The unfortunate circumstances of baby’s life lead her to do horrible
things. Alphonse took advantage of Baby's solitude and innocence to use her as a sexual object. Prostitution was not the only problem is Baby's life. Drug use eventually became a way for her to cover the pain and melancholy she felt every day.
